Remember Coco Gauff, the darling of Wimbledon? Of course you do. The 15-year-old became a global sensation when she reached the fourth round as a qualifying wild card with wins over Venus Williams, Magdalena Rybarikova and Polona Hercog.

After all the hoopla and winning was over, the American headed stateside to plot her next move.

Gauff arrived early in Washington for the Cii Open to see if she could land a spot in the qualifying draw. Though currently ranked No. 143, the entry list cut-off date was before her big breakthrough so she had to rely on her former ranking of No. 313.

Due to the age rules, the teen isn't allowed to accept another wild card until she turns 16 in March so the tournament organized a media hour and exhibition for her in case she didn't get in. At 15, WTA players are allowed to compete in 14 total WTA and ITF events.

Luckily for Gauff, everything worked out and she'd play in the qualifying draw starting on Saturday. Her first opponent was world No. 338 Maegan Manasse, a former University of Cal standout.

"I feel like my life hasn’t changed that much,” she told WJLA. “I feel like I’m getting recognized more but other than that it’s fine.”

Gauff eased past Manasse, 6-4, 6-2 and then dismissed Hiroko Kuwato, 6-1, 6-2, to earn a spot in the main draw. It's on her third career WTA main-draw appearance.
