In yawn-inducing-if-it-weren't-so-spellbinding news, Serena Williams was chosen for the cast of Sports Illustrated's latest Fashion Fifty roster.

In the accompanying cover story, she talks about "transcending" beyond the tennis court.

“It wasn’t something that was done—like you can’t focus on two things,” she told SI. “But I really liked fashion and wanted to learn, and I didn’t want my career to stop. I knew one day I wanted to create this brand that would be for people that have different aspirations and want to be fierce at the same time.”

Her sense of style has been on a certifiable journey over the years (read: decades). Yes, there have been missteps, but we've also seen a veritable embarrassment of riches. (Literally, as some of these garments and accoutrements, on and off court, go for a lot of coin.)
