Defending Wimbledon mixed doubles champion Nicole Melichar welcomes all challengers. She and her new partner Bruno Soares took down arguably the most intimidating mixed doubles team in history on Wednesday.

Melichar and Soares shocked the powerhouse duo of Serena Williams and Andy Murray, or Team MuRena, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

“They basically have no weaknesses, so it’s a bit difficult to know where to play, and Serena can hit the ball extremely hard,” Melichar told Baseline.

While Melichar makes her living competing exclusively in doubles and mixed doubles events, she relishes the opportunity to compete against the games great players.

“The atmosphere today was totally different,” Melichar said. “At the end of the day it’s a third round mixed doubles match, but it was treated like a final.

“I wish more high profile players played doubles and mixed doubles because it’s a beautiful part of the sport and needs more exposure and TV time, I’ll never forget this day."
