Top Wimbledon Week 1 Surprises: Serena and Murray team up

Cori "Coco" Gauff stole the show and became a viral internet sensation overnight. The 15-year-old is into the second week and her hype train shows no signs of slowing down.

In one of the more awkward moves of the tournament, Great Britain’s Jay Clarke dumped mixed doubles partner Harriet Dart via text message to play with Gauff. The late breakup rendered Dart partnerless. Clarke and Gauff lost their opener on Saturday, while Clarke and Dart reached the semifinals last year.

Seemingly egged on by reporters during their early round press conference, Grand Slam champions Serena Williams and Andy Murray shocked the world when they announced they would be competing in the mixed doubles draw together. They won their first round handily on Saturday.

Bernard Tomic was fined all of his first round prize money due to lack of effort. He won 38 percent of points against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in his opening round. Ironically, Tsonga won just 38 percent of total points against Nadal, raising questions about the fairness of subjective punishments handed out by umpires and tournament officials.

American upsets have ruled Week 1. Several massive wins have been handed out by Americans include Lauren Davis' three-set victory over defending champion Angelique Kerber, Reilly Opelka's second-round victory over three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, and Alison Riske's third-round victory over giant-slayer Belinda Bencic. Riske is still alive in the draw.
