After officially retiring from the sport at Roland Garros in May, Lucie Safarova made another announcement during Wimbledon's first week. Following in the footsteps of many a peer in recent years, she's pregnant.

The 32-year-old Safarova and boyfriend Tomas Plekanec each shared the good word, replete with adorable-couple photo, in the way that such news tends to arrive these days: via social media.

Plekanec, a hockey player who briefly appeared on the Toronto Maple Leafs NHL roster, appears not yet formally divorced from his wife, the Czech singer and actress Lucie Vondrackova, with whom he has two children.

"I went through lots of ups and downs in my hockey career and in my life," Plekanec said in his social media post, almost sounding like Safarova herself in taking stock of things. "Not everything went as I planned to but when you get through it something nice comes up!"

Safarova finished her accomplished playing days with middling results in recent times, that due to injury.

For the Czech's career, she was a 2014 Wimbledon semifinalist, 2015 Roland Garros runner-up, and five-time doubles Grand Slam winner across the Australian, French, and US Opens. Pair that with five Fed Cup team titles, and you have the makings of a Hall of Fame induction in the next five years.
