On Day 1 at Wimbledon, Simona Halep moved into second round by defeating the tricky Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-4, 7-5. Halep was in great form, closing out an eleven-ball rally with a cross-court backhand touch winner near the net to seal the win.

Despite an injury scare, after which she needed to get her ankle taped up, Halep was able to carry on.

"It's OK in this moment. But I need to do the treatment," she said. "I feel a little bit. I think it's a little bit stretched, the muscle behind the knee, and also the Achilles. Hopefully is nothing dangerous and I can recover until the next match."

Halep next faces her compatriot Mihaela Buzarnescu for the first time in her career.
