Players get their last bit of work in before the third Grand Slam of the season kicks off. Doubles Take looks at the results of the final warm-ups before Wimbledon.

SISTER ACT 3: BACK IN THE HABIT

Starting off 2019 with two hard-court titles early on in the year, the Hao-Ching and Latisha Chan reunion tour was a success right off the bat. However, the sisters then experienced a victory drought that lasted several months.

It looks like they’ve picked the right time to snap the slump.

The Chans captured their third title of the year in Eastbourne, halting the fairytale ride of Bethanie Mattek-Sands—playing her first tournament in months—and Kirsten Flipkens in the final, 2-6, 6-3, 10-6.

For the Chans, it’s their first title together on grass in five years.

A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING

Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal, one of the best teams on the men’s tour the past few seasons, found themselves prominently featured in the Queen’s Club news cycle when Andy Murray—making his return to tennis—and Feliciano Lopez beat them in the first round. “Colombian Power” gained a measure of revenge in Eastbourne, beating Murray and Marcelo Melo in the opener. From there, they kept fighting on with the result a first-ever grass-court title for the duo.

In the championship match, the duo defeated Horacio Zeballos and Maximo Gonzalez, to take their third title of the year. They will head into Wimbledon with momentum on their side, seeded second there for the first time.

THE GRASS IS ALWAYS GREENER

When teaming up, Jonathan Erlich—who’s accomplished nearly everything a tennis player can dream of in his long career—and Artem Sitak can lay claim to the fact that they’re among the best in the business, especially when it comes to competing on grass.

The 2018 Newport champions won their second title together at the Antalya Open in Turkey, defeating Ivan Dodig and Filip Polasek in the final.

The win brings their team record to 8-1, and they’ll look to improve upon that at Wimbledon, where they’ll face the ninth seeds Horacio Zeballos and Maximo Gonzalez—the runner-ups in Eastbourne—in the first round.
