Del Potro, Rogers suffer injury setbacks

And just like that, Juan Martin del Potro's return is over. The Argentine was playing in just his fifth event of 2019, and hurt his right knee during his win over Denis Shapovalov at Queen's Club.

Del Potro had surgery on his right kneecap after falling in Shanghai last year. He shared the disappointing news that the patella is again fractured, and he will need another surgery. This is another setback in what's been an injury-ravaged career for the world No. 12 as he needed multiple wrist surgeries in 2014 and 2015.

Over in Mallorca, Shelby Rogers won her first consecutive matches since coming back from knee surgery in April. She won two rounds of qualifying and her opening match before having to retire against Belinda Bencic while down, 5-7, 6-3, 3-1. In her case, it was a shoulder injury and not a recurrence of knee pain.
