Dominic Thiem rolled by home favorite Gael Monfils 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 on Monday at Roland Garros. After being embroiled in some press-room drama over the weekend, he let his racquet do the talking.

At 1-1 in third set, Monfils pulled Thiem to the net with a drop shot. Thiem reached the ball and pulled Monfils wide with a flick of his wrist. The Frenchmen answered back with a deep shot, but Thiem unexpectedly ran the ball down and was able to line up a perfect winning tweener. Not only was it an impressive shot, but it also led to him breaking Monfils' serve, and running away with the third set.

This was Thiem's first straight set victory of the fortnight and it came against arguably the toughest opponent he's faced thus far. He heads into his second consecutive quarterfinal appearance at Roland Garros.
