In Lyon, Reilly Opelka thought the match was over. Playing against France's Corentin Moutet in his first round, Opelka was up 6-4 in the third-set tiebreaker and confidently felt Moutet's shot was out. The umpire didn't agree, despite Opelka's protests.

He then lost the match with a double fault just minutes later, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (10).

"And yet again another controversial call on a huge point...," Denis Shapovalov said on Twitter, referring to Marton Fucsovic's own struggles with clay-court line calls earlier this month.

Opelka didn't shake the umpire's hand. His compatriot Taylor Fritz fared a lot better on the red clay, getting so comfortable he didn't even look at the ball during a point.

Nick Kyrgios was proud, saying "My boy is learning." Fritz would beat Jiri Vesely 7-5, 7-6 (3) to set up a second-round match with Richard Gasquet.
