Sunday is Mother’s Day, an occasion to celebrate and give thanks to the women who have shaped us.

Behind almost every tennis star is a devoted mom who has played a hand in molding their career, such as Taylor Fritz’s mom, Kathy May.

Fritz attributes his tennis success to his mom, a former Top-10 player who reached three Grand Slam quarterfinals—at the French Open in 1977 and 1978, and at the US Open in 1978.

“I’d say my mom was more helpful to my career considering that she was a former Top 10 player, and she guided me and helped me make so many decisions in my tennis career,” Fritz said.

The 21-year-old American, who reached a career-high ranking of No. 40 in January, is married to fellow tennis player Raquel Pedraza, and a father to son Jordan Taylor.
