The 2019 season bestows upon fans another first-time title winner. Maria Sakkari took down Johanna Konta in a comeback victory in Rabat, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, to claim her first career WTA title. The 23-year-old becomes the first Greek woman since Eleni Daniilidou in 2008 to win a title on tour.

Starting off the tournament ranked No. 51 in the world, Sakkari has jumped 10 spots to No. 41, her highest career-ranking to date. Despite losing the first set and being down 4-2 in the second, Sakkari never gave up, firing off 8 aces in the match and coming back for the win.

It was a great weekend for Greek tennis, as this was the first time in history that male and female Greek players won titles in the same week.

Stefanos Tsitsipas captured the Estoril title on Sunday, marking his first clay-court crown.

Unfortunately, Sakkari couldn't keep up her winning streak, falling to Carlos Suarez Navarro in the first round of Madrid.
