Serena Williams served as co-chair at this Met Gala, and she and fellow multi-major winner Maria Sharapova shined brightly on the red carpet of 2019's premier style event.

In a sign of her ongoing fixation on Virgil Abloh's creations, Serena tread on Volt Off-White's collab on neon-yellow Nike Air Force Ones, and she stunned in a floral dress by Atelier Versace. (In a bit of a prelude, she also wore bright yellow whilst out to dinner with husband Alexis Ohanian the night prior.)

Sharapova, herself a past Met Gala goer, returned in high-fashion Givenchy garb.

Sharapova's boyfriend, Alexander Gilkes, shared a novel pre-departure photo with winking caption as he and his companion prepared for the event.

Venus Williams, announced in the weeks leading up to the Met Gala as a host committee member, curiously was not seen on the carpet on this night.

Many other luminaries, among 580 or so invitees overall, similarly slayed the "Camp" game on the red carpet. Among them, Kacey Musgraves in full-blown blonde-meets-pink Barbie mode, replete with a hair-dryer clutch, and Cardi B, whose nine feet of red, feathery train looked about as high-maintenance as putting on such a spectacle surely must be.
