After all of 2019 without an official coach, Sloane Stephens has made a new hire and it's a familiar name. Sven Groeneveld joins Team Stephens just in time for the European clay swing.

The Dutchman has worked with slew of notable players including Monica Seles, Michael Stitch, Caroline Wozniacki, Ana Ivanovic, Tommy Haas and Fernando Verdasco, to name a few. In March last year, Groeneveld parted ways with Maria Sharapova after four years of working together. He then coached Chinese teenager Yibing Wu.

Stephens was previously coached by Kamau Murray, with whom she won the US Open, Miami Open and reached the French Open final. Murray is now working with Monica Puig.

Groeneveld is well-known figure in the tennis community. He has invested in helping create a pathway for players to transition into coaching with OrangeCoach.com, a job placement site with over 20,000 registered coaches.
