It's tradition at the Barcelona Open that the winner jumps into the pool with the ball kids, and that winner isĀ almost always Rafael Nadal. He has won the tournament a record 11 times, dating back to 2005.

But, on Sunday, the honor belonged to Dominic Thiem, who had just won his second title of the year, backing up his Indian Wells triumph over Roger Federer.

The road to the Barcelona title wasn't an easy one, either. All without dropping a set, Thiem defeated Diego Schwartzman, Jaume Munar, Guido Pella, Nadal, and, in the final, Daniil Medvedev.

What's more, the world No. 5 won that final emphatically: 6-4, 6-0.

The last two years of clay have been utterly dominated by Nadal, but, early on this clay swing, it seems the 2018 Roland Garros runner-up is making a mark of his own.
