It may have taken six years after winning the junior Roland Garros title, but Cristian Garin has won his first ATP Tour title. The Chilean fought past 20-year-old Casper Ruud—who was also looking for his first title—7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-3 on Sunday in Houston.

Until Buenos Aires in February, Garin had won just two ATP main draw matches in his career, but he won three back-to-back ATP Challenger titles last year. Relatively new to the scene, many spell his first name "Christian" but on the ATP site and his Instagram, it's "Cristian."

The 22-year-old jumps to world No. 46, marking his first time inside the Top 50.

This win was a triumph after losing his first ATP final in Sao Paolo last month, to Guido Pella. He had defeated Ruud in that same tournament in the semifinals.

Garin took out Jeremy Chardy and Sam Querrey along the way, needing to save five match points against the Frenchman. He's the first Chilean since Fernando Gonzalez in 2009 to win an ATP title.
