It's been a wild few years for Victoria Azarenka. In Monterrey last week, the former world No. 1 reached her first final since winning the Miami Open in 2016.

After winning both Indian Wells and Miami in 2016, the Belarusian stepped away to have her son Leo and played just two events in her first year back in 2017. Since then she has been slowly building her way back into the spotlight. Her best result this year before Monterrey was the quarterfinals in Acapulco.

In Monterrey, the 29-year-old made the final with wins over four-time champion Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and top seed Angelique Kerber. Taking on Garbine Muguruza in the final, Azarenka was forced to retire in the second set with a right leg injury.

Regardless of the disappointing ending, making it to the final shows that she may be closer to her 2016 form than ever. She's currently ranked No. 60.
