Ashleigh Barty became the Miami Open champion after defeating Karolina Pliskova to claim her first WTA Premier Mandatory title. Barty swept through some big names, including Kiki Bertens and Petra Kvitova, to reach the final.

She is the first Australian woman since 2013 to reach the Top 10 in the world rankings, currently ranked No. 9. Barty is also the first Australian ever to win in Miami.

Last year, Barty won the Miami doubles title with CoCo Vandeweghe, eventually going on to take the US Open doubles title. A year later, she's the singles champion and reached the semifinals of the doubles event with Victoria Azarenka, losing to Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka.

The 22-year-old has only lost three matches in 2019 for an overall 18-3 record.
