History was made when 18-year-old Bianca Andreescu lifted her maiden Premier Mandatory title in Indian Wells, becoming the first wild card ever and youngest player since Serena Williams in 1999 to win the BNP Paribas Open.

The prime minster of Canada, retired and active players, and sports outlets alike took to social media to congratulate the 2019 champion.

The outpouring of praise and congratulations for the new world No. 24 were unmatched. Andreescu had a message of her own to share, too.

“I can’t put into words what all of this means to me,” Andreescu said. “Being able to have my name amongst so many great champions is beyond remarkable. Thank you for everyone’s support! All those tough times are worth it if you believe there will be good times ahead.”

She won't have that much longer left to bask in the glory as she faces Irina-Camelia Begu on Wednesday, in a rematch of her first round in Indian Wells.
