While the majority of the crowd at the Indian Wells final may have wanted to see Roger Federer win his 101st title, no one can complain about Dominic Thiem taking home his first ATP Masters. The 25-year-old was able to come back after losing the first set to take the match, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

With his win, Thiem will rise to a career-high ranking of world No. 4. Before capturing his maiden Masters title, the Austrian had won 11 other titles. His previous best showing at a Masters 1000 tournament was reaching the final of Madrid in 2017 and 2018.

Thiem now has a winning record against Federer, leading their head-to-head record 3-2. With both Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin del Potro not playing the Miami Open, Thiem is a strong contender for winning back-to-back Masters titles.
