For a while there, it looked like G.E.M.S. life—better known as Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils—were going to both raise trophies in Indian Wells.

Svitolina defeated Marketa Vondrousova in three sets to reach the quarterfinals on Wednesday. Later that night, Monfils demolished Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-0, 6-2, and seemed unstoppable.

The only thing that seemed to be holding the power couple back was a lengthy Instagram outage that put the social media world into a standstill.

Svitolina wasn't actually asked about the outage, but the joke had to be made nonetheless given how often G.E.M.S. life is adding new content.

A G.E.M.S. life joint title was not to be though as Monfils was forced to withdraw from his quarterfinal on Thursday against Dominic Thiem with a left achilles tendon injury.

Svitolina is set to face wildcard Bianca Andreescu in Friday night's semifinal, which will mark their first career matchup.
