CiCi Bellis has been fighting her way through a rough year, which has included three surgeries that have prevented her from playing for nearly an entire season. After man stops and starts, on Tuesday the American announced that her return to tennis is on the horizon.

“After a surgery on my wrist and elbow last summer, I had to go back for yet another surgery on my wrist in November,” Bellis wrote on Instagram. “I am very happy that this third surgery went well. I am getting closer to being healed, healthy and able to take the court again."

Bellis last played at the 2018 Miami Open before being sidelined with a wrist injury. In December, the 19-year-old hired a new head coach in Dieter Kindlmann, who is Maria Sharapova’s former hitting partner and also coached Madison Keys, Elise Mertens, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Laura Robson.
