INDIAN WELLS, Calif.—Bianca Andreescu has won 23 matches this year, playing her first WTA final in Auckland, winning the WTA 125K Series in Indian Wells and skyrocketing her ranking to No. 60. It's only nature that she's building the star power to start trends.

With her rise has come a lot more attention and the Canadian teenager is embracing her growing platform. She's already got a signature accessory: a plastic coiled hairband on her right bicep.

"I don't know, I guess it's just my thing," the 18-year-old said. "I have never worn these hair ties before, but during preseason I bought a couple, and I was just wearing it around my wrist. And then I was noticing that when I was hitting forehands it kept flying off, so I just put it up there, and it looked decent, so I just kept it."

At first glance it may have seemed like the band was for injury prevention or something along those lines, but it's actually just one of those trendy spiral hairbands you're seeing more and more of. With the season she's had, it would be crazy to change anything now.

"I like to be different," the 18-year-old said. "So I guess I'm starting a bit of a trend, because a lot of people actually have messaged me about it saying they're wearing it now too. So it's pretty nice."

What's also pretty nice is her work this week in Indian Wells. In her BNP Paribas Open debut she's booked a spot in the quarterfinals after wins over Irina-Camelia Begu, Dominika Cibulkova, Stefanie Vogele and Wang Qiang.

She'll play Garbine Muguruza next, and no matter the result, will rise inside the Top 50 for the first time.
