Kerber scores 600th career win, in Doha

On Wednesday, Angelique Kerber’s round of 16 victory at the Qatar Open over Anett Kontaveit wasn’t just special because she reached her second quarterfinal of 2019. With the win over the Estonian, Kerber secured her 600th career singles win.

The three-time Grand Slam champion opened her season with a quarterfinal run in Sydney. At the Australian Open, she reached the fourth round before suffering a lopsided loss to Danielle Collins.

The No. 3 seed is set to face Barbara Strycova on Thursday, against whom she holds a 3-0 record.
