After a brief stint playing without a coach, Simona Halep has announced that she will be adding Thierry Van Cleemput to her team.

Van Cleemput worked with David Goffin from 2014 until the 2019 Australian Open. He also coached Olivier Rochus from 1993 to 1997 and served as the Belgium Davis Cup assistant captain from 2002 to 2005.

At the Australian Open, the Belgian was seen sitting just behind Halep’s player box during her fourth-round loss to Serena and also in her training sessions in Melbourne.

Halep is moving forward by taking on Cleemput in an official capacity but she has remained close friends with Darren Cahill since their coaching split in November.

The two spent a lot of time together during the offseason, even going on a ski trip together. Australian made her a personalized video that she later shared with her fans.

Halep is set to compete at the Fed Cup on Saturday and Sunday in Romania’s tie against the Czech Republic.
