It's OK to make the first move—be it in dating, when making friends or in a business meeting. Serena Williams is spreading that message to girls and women everywhere with the help of her partnership with Bumble, a dating app that allows only women to send the first message after matching with a potential date.

The 37-year-old Williams appeared on Good Morning America to talk about the Australian Open, her daughter and her Bumble commercial that appeared during Sunday's Super Bowl.

In Melbourne, Williams fell to Karolina Pliskova after leading 5-1 and holding four match points, but she looked at the disappointment in a positive way.

"I’m really known to be a closer. It's little moments like that that you just don’t think about because you’ve spent so much time way," Williams said. "Everything I’ve done in 10 months has  already been crazy and it’s still little lessons that I'm learning and I’m happy for those lessons."

Williams spent 10 months away from the tour to have her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. in September of 2017. Bumble and Serena's message applies to little Olympia too. It's about not waiting around and embracing being the first to go after something you want.

"Instead of waiting for things to come to you, it’s important to take that opportunity," Williams said.
