Noami Osaka overcame a huge scare in the third round of the Australian Open and that's not only because of her awkward tumble.

"That's just funny to me. He was like, Naomi, 'Are you okay?'" Osaka said. "I mean, I was, but I wanted to see his reaction if I said, 'no.'"

World No. 27 Hsieh Su-wei had the US Open champion on the ropes, leading by a set and 4-2 and 40-love.

"I was thinking OK I play a little bit safe. I was thinking a little bit too much," Hsieh said.

The 20-year-old Japanese sensation dug in her heels and fought her way all the way back to win the next four games and the match, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.

"I know she plays really well against the high-ranked players—especially in Grand Slams," Osaka said. "I think in the beginning I was very impatient, and I was a bit surprised that she moved so well, to be honest. She literally hit no unforced errors. For me, I just felt like I had to keep waiting and eventually I had my chance."

Osaka plays Anastasija Sevastova in the fourth round. She recently beat the Latvian in three sets in Brisbane.
