Serena Williams is in the midst of chasing Grand Slam No. 24 at the Australian Open, but she's still got her eye on the bigger picture—expanding the game.

A 12-year-old named Kalli Minor is hoping to chase the same dreams Williams has achieved. She's already got a lot in common with the former world No. 1, with both starting their tennis journeys in Compton, Calif.

Minor first captured Williams' attention with a Straight Out of Compton sign in Indian Wells back in 2015. She has worked on her game even harder ever since and has made bigger waves with the announcement of a quarterly tennis clinic to help children just like her discover the game in Compton. She has Williams' full support.

The youngster has also spent time training at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in France. Patrick Mouratoglou, of course, is Serena's longtime coach.

While Minor is busy honing her game for the future, Williams's campaign is underway at the Australian Open. Playing in her first match in Melbourne since winning it in 2017, Williams beat Tatjana Maria, 6-0, 6-2.

Williams will face Eugenie Bouchard on Day 3 Down Under.
