Enjoy a look back at the biggest upsets of the season, starting at No. 10 and counting all the way down to the top stunner of the year.

Over the past few years, Nick Kyrgios has led the charge for Australian men as they make their way up the rankings.

His countryman, Thanasi Kokkinakis, was supposed to be right there with him.

A slew of injuries derailed his progress, but when healthy, he’s demonstrated in his brief professional career that he can make an impact on the men’s tour.

Nowhere was that more evident than at this year’s Miami Open, where he was drawn to play the defending champion and world No. 1 Roger Federer in the second round.

Kokkinakis, who earned his main-draw berth through qualifying, dropped the first set against Federer 6-3, then won the second by the same score. The deciding set went to a tiebreak, and the young Australian took it quite comfortably, putting him through to the third round.

For Federer, it was his second third-set tiebreak loss in a row, having fallen in that situation the week before in the Indian Wells final against Juan Martin del Potro.

Kokkinakis, ranked No. 175 at the time, would go on to finish the year at No. 151 behind the strength of two ATP Challenger titles and the most memorable win of his young career.
