One of challenges to having such a global tennis tour is all of the tricky last names. One of the absolute toughest to spell (and we would know) is Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Her fellow WTA players tripped up over her name a few years ago in a spelling bee.
So the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy decided to call Pavlyuchenkova out on her own skills while she was in France training for the 2019 season:
Hardly anyone knows how to spell @NastiaPav’s family name correctly — but can SHE spell the other players’ names? We flipped the tables on her ????@KaPliskova @CaroGarcia @Kohlscribbler @marta_kostyuk @NVikhlyantseva @pmouratoglou @WTA pic.twitter.com/I3BgwduRBR— Mouratoglou Tennis Academy (@MouratoglouAcad) December 3, 2018
She got most of them wrong, admitting that the Russian ones are tough—even though she's from there.
I thought it was easy!!! ???? https://t.co/afGc0ChRT0— A. Pavlyuchenkova (@NastiaPav) December 5, 2018
Pavlyuchenkova ended her season at No. 42, winning one title in Strasbourg and finishing the season with a 21-21 record.
