Simona Halep has spent part of her offseason celebrating, and she's certainly got a lot to celebrate including her second year-end finish as No. 1 and winning the French Open. The Romanian was also just awarded an honorary doctorate from the West University of Timisoara.

The honor recognizes the 27-year-old's success on the court and role as ambassador in her home country.

She was the guest of honor for a massive party over the weekend in Romania.

As a result of her success this season, she was voted the 2018 WTA Player of the Year.

Halep missed the WTA Finals in Singapore due to a back injury. She recently parted ways with her longtime coach Darren Cahill, who will be spending more time with his family in 2019.

Though not working together anymore, Halep and Cahill are still great friends. They hit the ski slopes together last week in Austria.

Halep will skip Shenzhen, where she is the defending champion, and start her season in Sydney, notably without a coach.

“I thought about it and I will not have a coach in the following period," Halep said. "I want to go to some tournaments on my own and we’ll see how that goes."
