World congratulates Croatia on becoming Davis Cup champions

Croatia got its Davis Cup revenge in Lille, France, on Sunday by capping off a 3-1 win to capture its second-ever Davis Cup title—and its first since 2005.

Marin Cilic secured the championship by beating France's Lucas Pouille in straight sets, 7-6 (3), 6-3, 6-3, and an outpouring of congratulations from the tennis world ensued online after the French team congratulated the winners in the locker room.

Even Croatia's president, who was present at the match, was quick to post a tweet.

And analysts were thoroughly pleased with the performance as well:

Others took note of how this was the last Davis Cup final under the current format, with 2019's main event being held in Madrid for all 18 nations.

Both Croatia and France—as well as the United States—are already into the 2019 tournament in Madrid, by virtue of making this year's semifinals.
