Next Gen ATP Finals contender Taylor Fritz gave fans a walkthrough of his match preparation routine in Milan.

“Before a match, everyone is different, but for me I relax and chill,” Fritz said. “I’ll be around my team, I’ll be by myself, I’ll be with friends and not stress about the match until it’s time to warm up, then I lock in.”

The American was competing in his final event of the season, where he posted mixed results. In round robin action, he battled past wild card Liam Caruana.

But then the world No. 47 fell to No. 2 seed Alex de Minaur and Andrey Rublev, eliminating him from semifinal qualification.

Fritz celebrated his 21st birthday last month, meaning this was his last appearance at the Next Gen Finals, which is designed only for players aged 21 and below.

He still posted some of his best results in 2018, including reaching the third round of the US Open and appearing in two ATP semifinals. He also won the ATP Challenger in Newport earlier in the year for his fourth career Challenger title. His ranking of No. 47 is his career high after starting the year just outside the Top 100.
