After some speculation about whether or not Roger Federer would actually compete in Paris, he confirmed his participation on Tuesday.

"I feel like I recovered well from last week," Federer said. "I'll give it a go [on Wednesday]."

"I feel like it would be better for me to play matches rather than practice" Federer said. "As long as I don't feel like I'm taking a chance on my health prior to London that's the key as well."

Federer is coming in hot after winning his 99th career title, in Basel last week. The world No. 3 hasn't played the Paris ATP Masters 1000 event since 2015, when he lost in the round of 16. It's far from his best event—unlike Basel where he's won nine times—as he's only won Paris once, back in 2011.

The 37-year-old had a bye in the first round and was meant to open against Milos Raonic. But the Canadian pulled out after a 6-7, 7-6, 7-6 win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, meaning Federer's return got pushed back another day. On top of that, No. 1 seed Rafael Nadal withdrew with an abdominal injury.
