Adding an exclamation point to her 2018 season, Elina Svitolina won her biggest career title at the WTA Finals in Singapore. Defeating Sloane Stephens, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, Svitolina became the first Ukrainian to win the title.

Four of her five matches in Singapore went three sets, with only her first win over Petra Kvitova coming in straight sets. She became the first player to go unbeaten in the year-end tournament since Serena Williams in 2013.

It's the fourth year in a row that a player that has yet to win a Grand Slam won the year-end championships (joining Caroline Wozniacki in 2017, Dominika Cibulkova in 2016 and Agnieszka Radwanska in 2015).

Svitolina's last few tournaments have been disappointments, for her expectations at least. She won three titles in the first half of the year, but after winning Rome she made just one semifinal, in Montreal. Her Asian swing was also below average until she arrived in Singapore.

Now she jumps back into the Top 5 in the rankings, moving to No. 4.

This was the last year that the WTA Finals will be held in Singapore. It'll be played in Shenzhen starting in 2019.
