After notching his first major win against Rafael Nadal as a 17-year-old, Borna Coric’s career didn’t take off right away as he dealt with adjusting to life on the tour and injuries. But now, at the ripe old age of 21, Coric is living up to his potential—and then some.

As he told the ATP, “I was stuck at one level for two or three years: I couldn’t really break through.”

After changing his coaching team at the end of 2017, and an extra-long offseason, Coric has experienced a breakout campaign in 2018. He won his second career singles title in Halle against nine-time champ Roger Federer. The Swiss became the third member of the ATP’s “Big 4” to lose to Coric (Andy Murray and Nadal have 2-2 head-to-head records against him).

Just a few weeks ago, Coric took out Federer again, this time in the semifinals of Shanghai, to reach his first ATP Masters 1000 final. He couldn’t stop the Novak Djokovic freight train in the title match, but it was still enough to push him into the Top 15 for the first time.

And if that’s not enough, he’s helped guide Croatia to the Davis Cup final.

Coric is having a good time off the court, too, engaging with fans through social media. It seems like if you shoot your shot, he’s got you covered.

And he’s keeping his word, too.

What’s he doing out there, winning matches and being relaxed? Is that allowed?

He’s still in the mix for the ATP Finals in London. If he doesn’t make it this year, it's almost a guarantee he'll be part of the field in the coming years.
