Osaka is up to a career-high ranking of No. 4 and qualified for the WTA Finals in Singapore. Though she didn't compete, she still visited with her rapidly growing fan base.

She would win her opener but fall to a red-hot Qiang Wang in the round of 16. The tournament got a special visit from two-time Grand Slam champion Li Na.
