In Tokyo, Daniil Medvedev continued his breakthrough 2018 season by defeating hometown-favorite Kei Nishikori in the final. In just 62 minutes, the Russian earned his third title of the season, 6-2, 6-4.

This is Medvedev's first ATP 500 title, and his third career title after winning Sydney and Winston-Salem. The impressive week sends the 22-year-old  up to No. 22 for the first time in his career. He's the highest-ranked Russian in the world, just head of Karen Khachanov.

Medvedev gets no time to celebrate or rest as he heads straight to Shanghai where he will face wild card Zhang Ze in the first round.
