Wang Qiang is on a mission in her home country. China’s top-ranked player is two matches away from doing what many may have thought unthinkable, winning the Premier title Beijing.

The 26-year-old put on a tremendous display to defeat Aryna Sabalenka 7-5, 7-5 in the quarterfinals on Friday. Sabalenka came into the match on an eight-match win streak. Home favorite Wang gets an opportunity to compete in her second consecutive semifinal.

The world No. 28 has had an incredible season, particularly in in China where she won Nanchang and Guangzhou earlier this year on top of reaching the Wuhan semifinals as a wild card.

Wang has won 16 of her last 18 matches in China with notable wins over Jelena Ostapenko and Karolina Pliskova, twice. She will take on world No. 2 Caroline Wozniacki in hopes of advancing to her third WTA final of 2018.
