After undergoing hip surgery, Andy Murray hasn't had the best results since coming back in June.

Besides a quarterfinal run at the Citi Open, the former world No. 1 had not gotten past the second round in the five other tournaments he has played before arriving in Shenzhen. This week, the Scot earned the biggest victory since his comeback by defeating David Goffin in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Ranked world No. 11, Goffin is the highest-ranked player that Murray has defeated this year. This will be his penultimate event, as he is ending his season after Beijing.

While Murray played a stellar match, Goffin may have been tired after celebrating his Laver Cup victory over the weekend.

Murray will take on No. 5 seed Fernando Verdasco in the quarterfinals. If he is unable to win Shenzhen or Beijing, this season will be Murray's first since turning pro in 2005 that he will not win at least one title.
