CHICAGO–The most highly anticipated pairing of the Laver Cup did not disappoint. Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic teamed up as partners for the first time in their decorated careers on Friday night.

In front of over 19,000 fans, the two giants of the game took on Jack Sock and Kevin Anderson. With Team Europe up 3-0 after three singles wins, the pressure was on Team World, and they delivered with a 6-7 (5), 6-3, 10-6 win.

Though all the attention was on Djokovic and Federer, a third multiple major champion was on the court, too. Sock won both Wimbledon and the US Open with Mike Bryan, and has been labeled one of the best doubles players in the world. He's taken the new role in stride, despite desires to achieve more in singles.

"As a doubles specialist these days, hopefully I can help out the team at night with those half-court wins," Sock said after his loss to Kyle Edmund.

Federer and Djokovic didn't have quite the same buzzing chemistry like Federer had with Rafael Nadal last year. Case in point, their court position proved hazardous.

Despite being far more superior singles players than doubles, the Serb and Swiss grabbed the first set in a tiebreaker. Set point saw Djokovic fired up, to say the least.

Team World wouldn't go down easily, and Sock proved why he's ranked No. 2 in the world in doubles right now.

The deciding tiebreak is one of the most fun parts of the Laver Cup format and Day 1 saw three of them played. Sock and Anderson took the early control and didn't let up. The first point for Team World was sealed with a Sock forehand return winner.

It wasn't quite like the one that earned him the 2014 Wimbledon title (with Vasek Pospisil) but he was pumped up nonetheless.
