At the Premier WTA event in Tokyo, Victoria Azarenka scored a notable win to advance to the quarterfinals. The Belarusian ousted Ashleigh Barty in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Barty had just beating her US Open doubles champion partner CoCo Vandeweghe in the previous round.

It's the 29-year-old Azarenka's first event since losing in the third round of the US Open to Sloane Stephens.

She'll next face the always dangerous Camila Giorgi. The world No. 63 is seeking her first semifinal since Miami this year.
