Has the #NextGen officially arrived? Naomi Osaka, a 20-year-old from Japan that won Indian Wells earlier in the year, defeated Serena Williams in the final of the US Open to earn her first Grand Slam title. She is the first Japanese player in history to win a major.

Despite the controversial drama on court, Osaka played an immense match, winning the first set handily, and keeping her composure throughout the chaotic second set.

Osaka has broken into the Top 10 for the first time at No. 7, and improves her head-to-head record against Serena to 2-0 after previously beating the former world No. 1 in the first round of Miami this year. Many celebrated her victory, that was tainted by the drama between Williams and chair umpire Carlos Ramos.
