Bob Bryan, half of arguably the greatest doubles team of all time, couldn’t help but be proud of his brother Mike’s latest accomplishment.

Mike Bryan and Sock won the US Open for their second Grand Slam title in as many majors, beating Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo. The encounter between the last two Wimbledon winners was over in straight sets.

“We came out, came out loose and firing and they all dropped,” Mike Bryan said afterward in regard to the excellent form they displayed throughout the match.

It’s not every day that a team’s first two titles just happen to be Wimbledon and the US Open, and when asked about that instant chemistry, Mike Bryan said Sock’s own experience in pressure situations helps.

“Jack is a big match player. He always plays his best,” he said. “He's done it through his junior career. So he steps up when it really matters.

“When we lost in Cincinnati, he was, like, ‘We're Grand Slam players.’ I'm, like, ‘All right. Let's see what we got,’” Bryan added. “He showed it today. He just played amazing.”

Sock has been relaxed out there, as well, having now won five titles this year with four different partners.

“I tend to smile a lot more in doubles than singles and tend to put a lot less pressure on myself, for sure,” he said. “If I could translate that maybe over to singles and maybe have somewhat of that same mentality of playing loose and just enjoying, you know, every moment of it, then hopefully I can accomplish some of these things in singles.”

After finishing 2017 with an ATP Masters 1000 title and a spot in the ATP Finals, Sock has struggled in singles throughout 2018, but is optimistic for the rest of the year.

“I think it's just going to keep taking the team effort with the guys I have around me, and they are keeping me positive, keeping me motivated,” he said. “I'm doing a lot of the right things."

While things are going great for “Team Brock” now, Bryan and Sock both know Bob’s eager to resume his own record-setting pace.

"He's been really supportive, like, he gets so nervous that he can't watch the matches but he watches kind of the scores tick,” Mike Bryan said. "It's great to have a supportive brother rooting for me and Jack together as a team."
