Doubles Take returns with your daily look at what’s happening at the US Open.

Yesterday, eight teams between the men and women’s draws advanced to the quarterfinals.

Five of them happened to be unseeded.

The first week saw a number of upsets, and veterans such as Shuai Zhang and Samantha Stosur are taking advantage.

The quarterfinal fields will be complete by the end of the Monday, with the mixed draw a bit further along.

Here’s a look at some of today’s matches.

Dominic Inglot/Franko Skugor (16) vs. Mike Bryan/Jack Sock (3): The last time these two teams met, this happened on match point:

That five-set semifinal battle at Wimbledon a couple of months ago went in favor of the Americans, who would go on to win the tournament for their first title together. Inglot and Skugor have had a great 2018, but their Grand Slam dreams might be dashed once again by “Team Brock.”

Andrea Hlavackova/Barbora Strycova (3) vs. Ashleigh Barty/CoCo Vandeweghe (13): The Czechs entered the US Open on a roll, having won their first title of the year together in New Haven, Conn. They face a tough duo in Barty and Vandeweghe, who won the title in Miami this year. The Aussie-American pair has enough firepower and doubles savvy to pull off an upset.

Nadiia Kichenok/Wesley Koolhof vs. Bethanie Mattek-Sands/Jamie Murray: Murray, the defending mixed doubles champ, found himself a pretty good replacement for his partner Martina Hingis, who retired at the end of 2017. Mattek-Sands will be eager to make up for an earlier-than-hoped-for loss in women’s dubs as she tries to add to her own Slam title haul. Kichenok and Koolhof won’t be pushovers, but their strong run should stop here.
