For all its bright spots, the first week of this year's US Open has been a weird one, with pot-stirring events happening daily.

1

Shirtgate

In her first-round match on Tuesday, Alize Cornet was handed a code violation for taking off her backward shirt to put it on forward. After significant outcry, the US Open clarified its change-of-attire policy, saying, "All players can change their shirts when sitting in the player chair."

Kyrgios' "Coaching" Visit

Down 4-6, 0-3 against Pierre-Hugues Herbert, Nick Kyrgios got an alleged "pep talk" from chair umpire Mohamed Lahyani. The US Open determined that Lahyani "went beyond protocol," but "will continue to officiate during the 2018 US Open."

The first few days of the tournament were outrageously hot, and as a result, the new heat rule allowed men's players to take a 10-minute break following the third set. However, players cannot receive coaching.

After his four-set loss, Andy Murray asserted that his second-round opponent, Fernando Verdasco, was being coached during the break. Verdasco denied the accusation, and Murray responded in an Instagram caption: "I'm off to get a health check as apparently I've started imagining things. #liarliarpantsonfire."
