The Connecticut Open has a reputation of being the breakthrough tournament for many players. Ayrna Sabalenka continued that tradition by defeating Carla Suarez Navarro, 6-1, 6-4, in the final.

It marked is the Belarusian's first WTA tour level title, improving her world ranking from No. 25 to No. 20. She is the second straight player to her first title in New Haven, after Daria Gavrilova won it last year.

The 20-year-old only needed 24 minutes to take the first set, and is the youngest winner in New Haven since Caroline Wozniacki captured the title in 2010.

Sabalenka is the No. 26 seed at the US Open and will face Danielle Collins in the first round.
