Three different teams have won each of the men’s doubles titles at the Grand slams this year. Will one of them break through to add another at the US Open or will another duo emerge as the champion?

Here’s a look at five of the top contenders for the title.

1

Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic

From the start, 2018 promised to be a season to remember as the Austrian/Croatian pair went undefeated in January, a run that included their first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.

They reached the final in Paris, but had a disappointing Wimbledon, where they were the defending finalists. They haven’t made much of an impact during the hard-court swing, but with multiple major finals over the past year, they know how to turn it on for the big occasions.

2

Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares

The team of the summer, Murray and Soares are peaking right in time for the US Open, which they won in 2016 for their second major title of the year.

This year, they’ve won three titles on hard courts, including their first ATP Masters 1000 victory in Cincinnati. The duo found instant success back when they first partnered up in ’16 and a few years later, they’re still going strong.

3

Mike Bryan and Jack Sock

In only their second tournament together, the Americans came away with perhaps the game’s biggest prize this summer at Wimbledon.

Sock has struggled with his singles game in 2018, but has been lights out on the doubles court as he’s snagged four titles with four different partners. Bryan has played with a range of teammates after his brother Bob went down with an injury, but has obviously been most successful with Sock. Those two know how to feed off a crowd and playing at their home Slam will only benefit them.

4

Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert

Speaking of “home Slams,” the Frenchmen—long one of the best teams in the business—made a dream become reality when they triumphed at Roland Garros in June.

Stylish all-courters who can play on any surface, Mahut and Herbert know what it takes to win in New York, having taken the title in 2015.

5

Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau

Last year, Rojer and Tecau won in Winston-Salem, N.C., right before the US Open, then rode that wave into New York, where they won their second major together.

They’ve had another strong run prior to the start of the Open, which is a good sign as Tecau works his way back into shape after missing a large portion of the season due to injury. The pair appears to be putting itself in position for a repeat performance in the Big Apple.
