Kiki Bertens won the biggest match and title of her career in Cincinnati on Sunday. The 26-year-old defeated Simona Halep, coming back from a set down and saving a championship point, 2-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2.

She becomes the first Dutch player since 2006 to win a singles hard-court tournament, ATP or WTA. This is also the first hard-court title of her career. Bertens stopped Halep's nine-match winning streak from her victory at the Rogers Cup.

This is the third Cincinnati final that Halep has lost. "I was a little bit tired, but it was an amazing week," she said, before pulling out of the WTA Premier event in New Haven this week.  "Kiki really deserved this title. I have lost three finals here but maybe I'll be able to win one in the future."

This is Berten's first victory over a world No. 1 and her ranking jumps up to a career-high of No. 13.
