Grigor Dimitrov was made to work hard for his first-round win at the Rogers Cup in Toronto. Taking on veteran Fernando Verdasco, the No. 5 seed pulled out all the stops in a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5) win that ended late after a rain delay.
His huge backhand winner came early in the deciding tiebreak. Then on match point, he weathered a 35-shot rally to secure his birth in to the next round.
The Bulgarian hasn't played since Wimbledon, where he lost his opener to Stan Wawrinka. He now awaits the winner of Frances Tiafoe and Milos Raonic.
Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev headline the Rogers Cup in Toronto. Watch live coverage from four courts on Tennis Channel Plus beginning Monday, August 6th at 11:00 A.M.
